Build. Test. Understand.

A practical six-month pathway through electronics, embedded control, mechanical design, ROS 2, perception and robot learning. Build something at each stage, test it and keep a record you can explain and reproduce.

A six-month pathway

Each stage pairs a focus area with a build and supporting resources. Treat the months as a suggested pace: progress when you can explain the result and repeat the test.

This is a learning plan, not a record of completed projects or a formal qualification.

  1. Month 01

    Bench foundations

Electronics, multimeter use, soldering, Python, terminal and Git.

Build: Voltage-divider and transistor-switch experiments with a documented fault-finding log.

  2. Month 02

    Embedded motion

Microcontrollers, PWM, motors, encoders, sensors and closed-loop control.

Build: Line follower and self-balancing robot with logged P, PD and PID behaviour.

  3. Month 03

    Mechanical embodiment

Parametric CAD, tolerances, FDM design, actuation and backlash.

Build: A fitted servo bracket, calibrated enclosure and modified low-cost robot arm.

  4. Month 04

    Robot software

ROS 2, TF, xacro, Gazebo, ros2_control, SLAM and Nav2.

Build: A custom simulated robot that maps a world, localises and navigates autonomously.

  5. Month 05

    Control and perception

PID, state space, LQR, kinematics, calibration, vision and MoveIt 2.

Build: Measured controller comparison plus a collision-aware simulated pick-and-place task.

  6. Month 06

    Robot learning and evidence

Demonstration data, imitation learning, ACT, specialisation and portfolio proof.

Build: Record, train and deploy a LeRobot policy, then publish success-rate and failure analysis.
